I'm already receiving notifications telling me to put 2010 behind me and focus on making 2011 a year to remember. Hey, the year is not over yet. You've got nine weeks to make a difference. That's enough time to take matters in your own hand. Here's how.
Want to lose weight? Cut the fat from your organizations. By that I mean, the people who are taking up space and giving very little in return.
Invest now. Nine weeks from now it may be too late. Consider re-instating pay cuts or bringing back programs and resources necessary to help your organization stand out in a crowded field.
Plan for the future. The time to plan for next year is right now. Take a look at what's working and what's not and begin making course corrections. Bring in outside resources who can provide a fresh eye.
Short-term rewards. Provide your employees with short-term incentives to keep them moving forward at a time when most people consider kicking back. This can be as simple as certificates to a hot new restaurant or an additional day off the day prior to Thanksgiving or Christmas.
Be the leader your people know you can be. If management or being a business owner were so easy then everyone would be doing it. Don't wait until things get better to get yourself some help. If you do, improving your leadership skills may be the last thing you'll need.
It's almost November folks. Plenty of time to work on your business. But you can't do that if you are working in your business. Let us know how we can help.
