Okay…it's 6:00 AM and I'm still waiting for a Comcast supervisor to call me back. Did I mention I was told he would call within 30 minutes over 8 hours ago? Why tell someone you are going to do something if you have no intention of doing so? I would have much preferred it if they told me that they were not going to honor my request to speak with a supervisor. At least I would have gotten some sleep!
I can't trust these people anymore. That's why I'm taking this public.
The same thing may be happening to you. Have you told your employees you were going to do one thing and then you did nothing? Hmmm…some of you are taking just a little bit too long to answer this question. Trust is built when you do what you say you are going to do, even if it's not exactly what the other person wants to hear. It takes a long time to build a trusting relationship, yet it only takes a minute (or in my case 8 hours) to destroy it.
Take a closer look at your actions, as it is our actions and not our intent that really matter. Now before you promise something else to your employees or a loved one, be sure you will actually be able to do it.
