In an earlier post I wrote about Face Time at work. I received comments telling me this idea won’t work for most employers. Some of you still believe people work best with structure. I respectfully disagree. If a retail organization can figure out how to make this work http://www.fourhourworkweek.com/blog/2008/05/21/no-schedules-no-meetings-enter-best-buys-rowe-part-1/ then surely firms composed of Harvard MBA’s can make this happen. But you have to believe.
You have to hire people that are capable of working independently. They must be committed to the goals of the organization and invested in the outcomes. It helps if you support them with the right technology.
Tomorrow is the day before the long weekend and I am going to be working by the ocean. I trust myself enough to know that my work will be completed without getting sand in my laptop. I know not to drink while operating my laptop. I also know that if I am going to tell people how to do things, I must do them as well. See you on the beach.
