Mind Your Manners

As a business consultant, I’ve worked in dozens of organizations. Most have one thing in common. Lack of kitchen manners.

I’m thinking of starting a business where I will be selling custom designed signs that read, “Your mother doesn’t work here. Please clean up after yourself.” Each sign would be designed to reflect the culture of the organization as well as the kitchen décor.

I could also add a sign to my offerings that reads, “Stop taking lunches from the fridge that don’t belong to you.” Yes, I do believe that sign would be a best seller, as lunches disappear from the office fridge a lot.

I would be remiss, and might open up the market to competitors, if I didn’t have a sign that says, “Please clean the microwave when you are done.” I guess explosive food is all the rage these days in corporate America. And while I’m on the subject of microwaves, I’ll have to have a sign that bans ethnic food and fish, since the odors from those items seem to last longer than that of the lunch favorite, Lean Cuisines.

I’m thinking I can probably design a line of signs that can be hung in people’s houses as well, as surely people must act the same way at home as they do at work.

Best to place your orders early, as I have a feeling I’m going to have more business than I can handle!

Take a picture of the sign in your kitchen and send it my way (Roberta@yourhrexperts.com). I’ll post the best next week.
