Is Multi-tasking Hazardous to Your Health?

I was at the gym this morning on the elliptical doing what I normally do. Working out while watching The Today Show. I always love it when I can get more than one thing accomplished at a time. Out of the corner of my eye, I watched a twenty-something take multi-tasking to a new level. This woman was running on the treadmill, while listening to music, texting and reading…all at the same time! And she never skipped a beat, nor did she go flying off the treadmill. Amazing…simply amazing.

I am in awe at the versatility of young people. Their use of technology is inspirational. Heck if they can listen to music, text and get their reports done in the time it takes a more mature person to complete one task, I say go for it!

I learned a long time ago that I have to adapt and not the other way around. Perhaps it's time to take a closer look at your practices at work. Are they based on generations gone by or are they hip enough to effectively guide the latest generation that is multi-tasking in your workplace?
