I’ve been involved in a conversation on a list-serve regarding the use of online training to deliver content on such sensitive subjects as harassment in the workplace. Now don’t get me wrong. I’m all for the use of technology and efficiency when it makes sense, but not when we use it to simply check off boxes to show our people and our shareholders we are committed to developing our people.
Can you really have a dialogue on the impact harassment has on the people in organizations with a computer? I think not. Nor can you have conversations regarding diversity and discrimination this way. There is a time and a place for technology.
The last response on the thread was that this was being done to minimize risk, even though the company deemed the training as unnecessary. You might be saving a dime here or there, but just wait until you have to pay your attorney and the person who has just won a claim against your company. Then by all means, give me a call.
What’s your experience on using online training programs to prevent harassment in the workplace?
