Four Ways to Slash Your Hiring Time in Half

Is it taking your company way too long to fill open positions?

Here are some interesting statistics worth considering.

  • Companies lose as many as 89% of potential candidates due to prolonged screening process. (G2.com)
  • Three-quarters of hiring staff say attracting top talent is easier when the candidate knows about your organization, confirming that employer brand is a powerful business tool. (CMD Recruitment)
  • Organizations that invest in a strong candidate experience improve the quality of their new hires by 70%. (G2.com)

The hiring landscape has changed dramatically over the past year.  The pendulum has swung in terms of the job market, giving employers the upper hand once again.

This means it should be taking companies a lot less time to fill positions with qualified candidates. If it’s taking your organization the same amount of time or more time to fill open job requisitions today, then something is terribly wrong with your hiring process.

Here are four ways to give your hiring process a makeover and slash your hiring time in half.

Get clear on the job requirements of open positions before beginning your search. It’s not uncommon for a hiring manager to ask for 10 years of experience or an advanced degree because that’s what everyone else is asking for when filling similar positions. But are these requirements really requirements? Or are they “nice to haves?”Starting out of the gate with the wrong requirements will dramatically slow down your hiring process. That’s why it’s important to flesh out requirements before beginning your search.

Be extremely selective in terms of who is involved in the hiring process. Make a list of everyone who is participating in the hiring process. Then draw a line through the middle of the list. Remove the people who are below the line, unless there’s a really good reason for keeping them on this list.

Begin the reference checking process during the final round of interviews. This will allow the hiring manager to make an offer right on the spot.

Give hiring managers the authority to negotiate pay packages. By doing so, you’ll eliminate the wasted time that occurs when a hiring manager must negotiate with HR.

Pick the one recommendation that resonates with you and implement it immediately. By doing so, you’ll be on the path to significantly improving your hiring process, attracting top talent, and enhancing the quality of your new hires. The results won’t be far behind.
