A funny thing happened the other day. The topic of executive presence came up at a meeting I was facilitating and when I returned home, I had an e-mail from a colleague asking about this very same topic. Coincidence? I think not.
Companies are beginning to take notice that their workforce is aging. In an article that recently appeared in the WSJ, it was noted that global giant ConAgra Foods expects that 50% of their workforce will retire within the next 10 years. The time has come to plan for this seismic shift in the workplace. Begin by asking yourself the following:
How vulnerable is our organization?
Who in the organization has the skills and ability to sit in the executive suite?
Will we need to go outside for talent or can we fill these positions from within?
What can we do today to help internal candidates develop their executive presence?
What are we waiting for?
I can help. But you have to make the call.
