Be Bold!

Go For It!Last Friday, I met with my mentor Alan Weiss to discuss my business and how I can continue to offer substantial value to clients and prospects. Here’s what he said. “Roberta, you need to be more bold.” I found that statement quite surprising considering I’m a native New Yorker who has never had a problem being bold. But upon further reflection, I think he is right.

It’s hard to accurately assess yourself when the only barometer you have is you. It’s like trying to see if your hair on the back of your head is sticking up, when you don’t have a mirror in your hand to check.

I’m thankful that I have a mentor like Alan Weiss who isn’t afraid to tell me exactly what he is thinking. You may believe your people will do the same for you, but it’s highly unlikely when they are worried about being let go, the next time the company has a reorganization.

Now is the time to take stock of how you are being viewed in your organization so that you can determine how to best navigate your career over the next year.
