Ask and You Shall Receive

I'm simply blown away by the response I'm getting from people who are willing to give of their time to help me with my book, Suddenly in Charge-Managing Up, Managing Down, Succeeding All Around. You see, the names that appear on the back of books touting how wonderful a book is don't magically appear. You have to ask each and every person if they will consider reading the page proofs with an eye towards endorsing your book. Sounds easy, right? Not so fast. First you must identify those individuals whose opinions others will respect. Then you have to ask them if they'll take the time to read your book. Now that's the hard part, as we all know how busy people are these days. But as I'm finding, if you don't ask, people can't say yes! So far so good. Lots of yes's and many were delivered within minutes of making my request.

So what is it that you've hesitated asking for? Is it an introduction to someone who may be in the position to hire you? Is it the raise you've worked so hard to earn? Or is it asking for a testimonial or a referral? Let's make this national Ask week. Think about one thing you've held back asking for and move your request forward. Share the results of this one step in the comment section of this blog so others can see first hand how you have to ask in order to receive a yes.
