Are you Really Happy At Work?

Is anyone else sick and tired of hearing people moan about how miserable they are at work? I know I am. Economists predict that companies will begin hiring again this year. I'm already seeing this happen. So here's my advice to those of you who are no longer happy at work.

Take action-Do something…anything! Update your resume so that you have something to submit the moment you see an opportunity that's of interest. Like most things, the idea of taking on this task is a lot worse than it is to actually do this task.

Re-engage your network-This is the perfect time to pick up the phone and say hello to people you may not have spoken with in a while. Begin with, "Happy New Year!" and go from there. Remember that networking is about giving, rather than taking so listen carefully for opportunities where you can offer to provide value to the other person.

Look within-Seek a new position at your current place of employment. A new challenge may be just what you need.

Seek professional help-There may be more going on here than a lousy job. Seek the help of a mental health professional to help you pinpoint the source of your unhappiness.

Find an accountability partner-Make it a point to connect with someone who will help keep you accountable. This will be type of person who will continually ask you what you are doing to move your situation forward.

Find another source of happiness-Look for volunteer opportunities where you can help others. This will certainly help you put things in perspective.

Take a vacation-Now may be the perfect time to use the vacation time you've been saving for a rainy day. In case you haven't noticed, it's raining inside your head.
