It used to be that when you bought an airline ticket, you actually got a seat with it. Now days, you have to pay extra if you want a guarantee that you won’t be stuffed into the middle like the pimiento in a cocktail olive.
I just paid US Airways and American Airlines for seats that should have come with the ticket. I’m not talking about a seat that’s wider than the average or one that comes with Wifi. Just a plain old seat.
I really wish they would have given me a choice of flying standing up or sitting down. At least then I would have felt like I was getting something valuable in exchange for the dough I just laid out.
This tactic reminds me a lot of hotels that charge anywhere from $10 to $25 to access the Wifi. In some cases, this is per device. I’d rather they increase the price of the room or plane ticket or whatever, than charge me extra when I’m already paying full freight.
