Some of you may have noticed that I'm posting less frequently as I stare down the fast approaching deadline for my forthcoming book, Suddenly in Charge! Managing Up, Managing Down, Succeeding all Around. My mentor says move one thing forward a mile, rather than three things forward an inch. I couldn't agree more, as I come down to the wire.
I'm amazed what you can accomplish when you chunk things down. Five months ago I couldn't imagine really writing twenty chapters. I remember telling my 11-year old to stop whining about the 100 words he had to write for his paper. I asked him to imagine if he had to write 60,000 words, which is typical of a book like mine. I then went silent as I began to think about how the heck I was going to do this. I decided the only way I could survive was to break things down.
I purchased a two inch binder and made up beautiful sub-dividers to hold all the chapters. I then began to fill the binder one chapter at a time, celebrating every time I pressed the print button to print out another chapter. I am three-quarters of the way done and I can see the light.
You can apply these same concepts to whatever you are striving to accomplish. Take it one day at a time and move one thing forward a mile. Eliminate the distractions that are slowing you down. Keep your eye on the prize and celebrate successes along the way. Share your successes and your strategies in the comments section and we will all celebrate together!
