We look at famous people and wonder how they became overnight successes. The truth is that most overnight success takes years to achieve. You have to begin somewhere, so where do you start?
Establish goals for yourself-As I told audience members of a webinar that I conducted this morning, it’s hard to get to where you are going if you have no particular destination in mind. Don’t worry about having an exact destination. Something in the neighborhood will be fine for now.
Set your GPS-It may sound counter-intuitive to say this but working backwards is often the best way to reach your destination. For example, suppose you’ve decided that you want to create a team of world-class leaders in your organization. That’s a great goal. Now work backwards. How would you achieve this? If I were doing this exercise, I would do the following:
- Provide each team member with the tools and training necessary to succeed.
- Look at each person’s strength on the team and build from there.
- Assess whether or not the right people are in the right jobs
Build on your successes-People don’t became superstars by focusing on their weaknesses. They build on their strengths. Do the same and you will be hugely successful.
Shed the excess weight-This could be the little guy on your shoulder who is telling you that you’ll never make it in this town. Or it could be the weight you feel because you gave up fitness for Lent.
Success takes a plan and success take commitment. What are you willing to do to be hugely successful?
